Martin Callanan, Baron Callanan (born August 8, 1961 in Newcastle upon Tyne ) is a British politician ( Conservative Party ).

Callanan worked as a project engineer at Scottish and Newcastle Breweries from 1986 to 1998. He was a member of the Tyne and Wear County and Gateshead Borough councils . From 1999 to 2014 he was a member of the European Parliament . There he was chairman of the group of European Conservatives and Reformists from December 13, 2011 to June 12, 2014 .

Callanan was a member of the Conference of Presidents , the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and the delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly . Callanan is deputy in the delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) .

House of Lords

On September 24, 2014, Martin Callanan received a Life Peerage with the title Baron Callanan , of Low Fell in the County of Tyne and Wear, and thus became a member of the House of Lords for the Conservative Party .
