Martin Heinzelmann
Martin Heinzelmann (* 1942 in Mannheim ) is a German historian and medievalist .
Heinzelmann studied history, German and political science in Heidelberg , Berlin and Mannheim . From 1968 he worked at the German Historical Institute in Paris , where he was senior scientific adviser. From 1976 to 2005 he edited the Middle Ages section of the Francia magazine, published by the German Historical Institute in Paris.
He deals with late antiquity , the time of the Merovingians in Gaul and especially the position of bishops and saints. He also examines sources of hagiographies and dealt in detail with the histories of Gregory of Tours .
