Martin Körfer

Martin Körfer (born August 4, 1889 in Kückhoven ; † January 26, 1968 ) was a social democratic local and state politician. In 1911 he came to Mönchengladbach as a young textile worker and has since been active in the labor movement, in the Social Democratic Party and in the workers' welfare organization. From 1933 to 1945 he belonged to the social democratic resistance movement. His membership and collaboration in the underground movement brought him to a special court in 1936 for 2 ½ years in prison. (Pretrial detention in Duisburg, then in prison in Vechta) After 1945 Martin Körfer continued to be active in the SPD. In 1946 and 1947 he was a member of the appointed Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia . From 1956 to 1964 he was a city councilor in Mönchengladbach for the Lürrip district. He was a member and long-term chairman of the Workers' Welfare Association in Mönchengladbach and received the Federal Cross of Merit in 1959.
