Career

Martin Lukeš started at Slavoj Bruntál and moved to Baník Ostrava at the age of eleven. At the age of 18 he made the leap into the professional squad and was a regular in his first season. On April 22, 1998, the midfielder made his debut in the Czech national team and scored two goals on his debut, a 3-1 win against Slovenia , although he was only on the field for 35 minutes. Lukeš had his second and so far last appearance for the Czech Republic on August 19, 1998, his team won 1-0 against Denmark . After 131 league games for Ostrava, Lukeš moved to Slavia Prague in the summer of 2003 , but only stayed one season. Slavia hired Josef Csaplár as a new coach for the 2004/05 season , who gave Lukeš the clearance.

The two-time national player then returned to Ostrava in late August 2004. In February 2005, the midfielder suffered a knee injury, had to undergo surgery and was absent throughout the second half of the season. He didn't return to the field until October 2005 and got better and better as the season progressed. In the 2006/07 season he was back in the regular formation of FC Baník Ostrava. In his 200th first division game on August 10, 2007, he was fouled by Goce Toleski in a game against FK SIAD Most , suffered another serious knee injury and was out for half a year.
