Martin Marietta Materials is an American quarry operator . The company, based in Raleigh , North Carolina, is the second largest producer of aggregates in the United States. Martin Marietta has locations in the United States, primarily in Texas, Colorado, North Carolina and Iowa, Nova Scotia (Canada) and the Bahamas .
Martin Marietta Magnesium Specialties manufactures magnesium oxide (magnesia) and magnesium hydroxide .
In January 2016, Martin Marietta opened a new limestone quarry with a rail connection near San Antonio (Texas ). The investment cost was $ 160 million.
Martin Marietta Materials was founded in 1993 as a spin-off from the Martin Marietta Corporation , which it floated on the stock exchange in 1994 . In 1995 the parent company merged with the Lockheed Corporation to become Lockheed Martin , which in 1996 parted with its remaining shares in Martin Marietta Materials.
