Johann Martin Rümelin (born February 1, 1586 in Tübingen ; † September 22, 1626 there ) was a Württemberg jurist, professor at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and librarian .

Life

Johann Martin Rümelin was the third son of court attorney and procurator Martin Rümelin (* around 1552 in Ebingen , † 1597 in Tübingen) and his wife Margarete, née. Epp (* around 1549, † 1612 in Tübingen).

He enrolled at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen on May 25, 1601, together with his older brother Johann Burckhard Rümelin. In 1608 he moved to the University of Jena . Back in Tübingen, he received his doctorate iuris utriusque on September 19, 1615 .

Rümelin then became a language professor at the University of Tübingen. He taught Greek and a second language. It is not entirely clear whether this second language was Latin or Hebrew.

In addition, from 1617 until his death in 1626, he held the post of Tübingen university librarian.

On October 13, 1615, Martin Rümelin married Maria Harpprecht (* August 7, 1599 in Tübingen, † July 31, 1665), a daughter of the law professor Johannes Christoph Harpprecht . The marriage resulted in four daughters and one son. One of his important descendants is the Tübingen historian Carl Friedrich Haug .
