Martin Schüttler (* 1974 in Kassel ) is a German composer.

biography

Martin Schüttler studied composition with Nicolaus A. Huber and Ludger Brümmer at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen. Between 2000 and 2004 he was a guest artist at the ZKM in Karlsruhe. From 2001 to 2013 he taught theory and composition at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts and from 2004 to 2013 music theory at the Philipps University of Marburg . In 2004 he attended a guest seminar on music in an intermedia context at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art . In 2005 he was co-initiator of the platform for current music stock11 . Together with Mark Lorenz Kysela, Schüttler founded the laptop formation taste in 2006, with which he has since appeared regularly as a performer. In 2007, to accompany Documenta 12 , he organized the stands' n strikes event series for acoustic art in Kassel. In 2009 the CD Pelze und Restposten with music by Martin Schüttler was published in the Contemporary Music edition of the German Music Council. In 2012 and 2014 he was invited to teach composition at the Darmstadt Summer Courses . In spring 2014 Schüttler received a Villa Serpentara scholarship from the Berlin Academy of the Arts. Since the winter semester 2014/15 he has been Professor of Composition at the State University for Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart .

Schüttler's music was performed by interpreters and ensembles, including the Trio Accanto, the Ensemble Modern, Asamisimasa, the MusikFabrik, the SWR Vokalensemble, the Nadar Ensemble and the RSO Frankfurt. In addition, there is a cooperation with younger musicians and performers. His work includes pieces for solo and chamber music ensembles, for choir, orchestra and live electronics, as well as the production of tape music, sound installations, media art, theater, film and dance music.

Schüttler was awarded the Kranichstein Composition Prize of the Darmstadt Summer Course in 2002 for his work. He has received commissions for the Takefu Festival (Japan), the Darmstadt Summer Courses, the Donaueschinger Days for New Music , the Eclat Festival , the Tanztheater International Hannover , the Hessischer Rundfunk and the German Music Council. He realized theater and dance productions at the Kaai Theater in Brussels, at the State Theater in Stuttgart and at the Theater Mohammed V Rabbat / Morocco. Music by Martin Schüttler and interviews were broadcast on HR, SWR, WDR, Radio Suisse Romande and Deutschlandfunk. Martin Schüttler lives in Stuttgart and Berlin.
