Martin Schechter (* 1930 in Philadelphia ) is an American mathematician who deals with analysis.

Life

Schechter received his doctorate in 1957 from New York University with Louis Nirenberg and Lipman Bers (On estimating partial differential operators in the L 2 norm). He was then at New York University, 1965 to 1966 at the Institute for Advanced Study , at the University of Pennsylvania and in the 1970s at Yeshiva University . In the 1990s he was at the University of California, Irvine .

He deals with partial differential equations and functional analysis with applications in mathematical physics (quantum mechanics, scattering theory).

Schechter is a member of the Association of Orthodox Jewish Scientists.
