Martinskirche in Drensteinfurt

The Martinskirche is the Protestant church in the city of Drensteinfurt in the Warendorf district and is located in the Drensteinfurt district on Bahnhofstrasse on the route between the Catholic parish church of St. Regina and the train station. Since the Friedenskirche in the district of Rinkerode was deedicated on September 21, 2014 and its demolition in April 2016, it has been the only Protestant church in the Evangelical parish of Drensteinfurt that merged with the Protestant parish of Ascheberg to form the Mirjam parish of Ascheberg Drensteinfurt in January 2018 the Drensteinfurt urban area. (The Protestant Christians of the Walstedde district belong to the Ahlen parish.)

history

Protestant church services took place before the construction of the Martinskirche, first in the station hall and since 1935 in the former school on Südwall. Since 1948, the service has been held in an emergency church, a barrack that was provided by the Federal Railroad and converted into a makeshift church. In 1956, after long planning work, the construction of the Martinskirche began, which was consecrated on June 30, 1957. The name of the church recalls Martin of Tours . In 1978 the tower was renovated.

In 1992 a parish hall was built on the site of the former sexton's house.

Furnishing

In the 1960s, the Martinskirche received new, lead-glazed windows, a red carpet, paraments in the liturgical colors, an organ and a bell.

History of the parish

Drensteinfurt, Rinkerode and Mersch belonged to the evangelical parish of Münster until 1954. From 1954 to 1958 the places belonged to the newly created parish Hiltrup. In 1958 the Evangelical Parish of Drensteinfurt with the parish parts of Rinkerode and Mersch became independent through the parish of Hiltrup. On January 14, 2018, the two Protestant parishes in Ascheberg and Drensteinfurt merged to form the "Evangelical Mirjam Parish Ascheberg Drensteinfurt".
