The Martinsyde G.102 was a British military aircraft made by Martinsyde .

development

In the summer of 1915 Martinsyde constructed a biplane as a patrol single-seater. In September of the same year, the Martinsyde G.100 prototype took off for its maiden flight. The aircraft was unusually large for a single-seater, which resulted from the requirement for a five-hour deployment as an escort for scouts; Because of her size, she was nicknamed Elephant in the troop . The Beardmore G.100 with a 125 HP engine went to the squadrons in small numbers and was used in France from spring 1916.

The G.100 was followed at the end of 1916 by the improved G.102 with a more powerful engine and increased payload, although this was at the expense of the flight duration. She was u. a. also used as a bomber. A total of around 300 G.100 / G.102 were produced, of which 133 were used in France, 64 in the Middle East and the rest in training units. The improved Martinsyde RG single- seater hunter was derived from this basic type in 1917 .
