Marvin Camras

Marvin Camras ( 1916 - June 23, 1995 ) was an American electrical engineer. He is considered to be the inventor of magnetic recording .

He began his career in the late 1930s as a student at the Armor Institute (later Illinois Institute of Technology ; IIT), where he built a wire recorder. On the recommendation of his professors, he turned to the Armor Research Foundation (later IIT Research Institute) to develop his invention.

Until 1994 he taught electrical engineering at the IIT.
