Marvin Phillips (born October 23, 1931 in Guthrie , Oklahoma), also known as Long Tall Marvin , is an American R&B singer and saxophonist. He celebrated his greatest successes with the doo-wop duo Marvin & Johnny in the mid-1950s.

Marvin Phillips began his musical career as a saxophonist in the Richard Lewis Band in Los Angeles . When he founded his own group Marvin Phillips And His Men From Mars, he was followed by Emory Perry, with whom he would later record as Marvin and Johnny. At Specialty Records , Marvin not only released his first solo single in 1952, but also played the saxophone to Jesse Belvin's vocals on Dream Girl , which became an R&B hit under the group name Jesse & Marvin . In the following year the doo-wop group Marvin & Johnny was founded , which from now on should become Marvin's preferred project. Two solo releases followed on the small Parrot label .

In 1954, Marvin and Johnny moved to the neighboring Modern Records of the Bihari brothers. Marvin and Emory "Johnny" Perry separated in 1955 and Phillips released his fourth solo record on Modern in 1956 as Long Tall Marvin with Have Merci Miss Percy . One last single was released in 1960 on the Swingin 'Records label .

In 1993 Marvin Phillips reappeared when he made a comeback as Marvin & Johnny with his nephew Sheridan "Rip" Spencer, who had meanwhile taken over from his uncle's group name.
