Marvin Stinson (* 4. May 1952 ) is a retired American boxer in the heavyweight division .

Career

Stinson was a participant in country fights and international tournaments. In 1976 he won the US championships, beating John Tate . At the national Olympic eliminations in 1976 he suffered a defeat against Tate in the final this time. In the box-offs he managed to win again against Tate, but he lost another rematch. Eventually Tate was sent to the Olympics.

Stinson's greatest achievement was the silver medal at the 1974 World Championships in Havana . He beat the Balkan champions Rajko Miljić in the semifinals , before retiring in the final against Teófilo Stevenson .

The 1.89 m tall left-hand boom turned pro in 1977 and remained undefeated in 15 fights. Against Tim Witherspoon then he lost in February 1981 on points. After another point loss to Jimmy Young in June 1981 and an early loss to Eddie Gregg in October 1982, he ended his career.
