Masamba is a city (Kota) in South Sulawesi , Indonesia and is the capital of the government district ( Kabupaten ) Luwu Utara . The urban area includes the entire district ( Kecamatan ) Masamba, which is divided into 15 villages (Desa), 4 Kelurahan and 2 Transmigrasi settlements.

In 2010 the city had 31,237 inhabitants on an area of ​​1,068.85 km². The city is situated on the Patikala River and is at an altitude between 50 and 300 meters above sea level. Masamba has a small airport.
