Masanori Tanimoto

Masanori Tanimoto ( Japanese 谷 本 正 憲 , Tanimoto Masanori ; born April 16, 1945 in Nishiwaki , Hyōgo Prefecture ) is a Japanese politician and has been the governor of Ishikawa Prefecture since 1994 . Since 2005 he has been Vice President of the National Conference of Governors ( Zenkoku Chijikai , NGA ).

Tanimoto, a graduate of the Law Faculty of Kyoto University , worked from 1968 for the Ministry of Self-Government . During his time at the ministry, he worked for the administrations of Ibaraki and Shimane and as an assistant mayor ( joyaku ) of the city of Miyazaki . In 1991 he became the lieutenant governor of Ishikawa.

When the governor of Ishikawa, Yōichi Nakanishi , died in 1994 before the end of his eighth term, Tanimoto applied for his successor. When choosing on March 27, 1994, he was able, with the support of several parties ( Shinseitō , Kōmeitō , Japan New Party , DSP , SPJ ) narrowly beat the LDP -based Hiroshi Ishikawa prevail. He was last re-elected for a sixth term on March 16, 2014 with the support of the prefectural associations of LDP, Kōmeitō, Democratic Party and SDP .
