Masao Nishimura

Masao Nishimura ( Japanese 西村 正雄 , Nishimura Masao ; born November 18, 1933 in Kanagawa Prefecture ; † August 1, 2006 in Tokyo , Japan ) was a Japanese bank manager .

After studying at the University of Tokyo , he went to the Industrial Bank of Japan (IBJ) in 1955, becoming its president in 1996 at a time when the banking sector had to bear the consequences of the collapse of the bubble economy in the early 1990s. As IBJ President, he merged his house with Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank and Fuji Bank in 2000 to form the Mizuho Megabank Group. Mizuho Financial Group Inc. was founded in 2003 as a holding company. After the merger, Nishimura acted as co-chair and special advisor to the Mihuzo Group. He later gave up this position as a result of an affair.

Nishimura was also a member of a panel of experts that advises the Japanese government on reforming the state finance system. He was the uncle of Shinzo Abe , who in 2006 had a good chance of succeeding Junichiro Koizumi in the office of Prime Minister . On August 1, 2006, Masao Nishimura died of heart failure in a Tokyo hospital at the age of 73 .
