Masashi Tanaka

Masashi Tanaka ( Japanese 田中 政 志 , Tanaka Masashi ; born June 10, 1962 in Gotsu , Shimane , Japan ) is a Japanese manga artist .

Tanaka graduated from Osaka University of Arts . His debut work as a professional mangaka was published in 1983 in the Japanese manga magazine Morning . In 1992 he first published his most famous work to date, Gon . The focus there is on a dinosaur that never utters a word and travels through the entire animal world. The manga appeared very successfully in many countries; in Italy other of his works are published besides Gon .

Tanaka's works are mostly very dialogue-poor, but stand out for their very detailed drawings that are created without screen foils .

He received several awards for Gon . For example the 1998 Eisner Award in the Best US Edition of Foreign Material category . In the same year he won the second Media Arts Award .
