The Masjid Sultan ( Sultan Mosque ) is located between Muscat Street and North Bridge Road in the Kampong Glam District of Singapore . The mosque , opened in 1928, is considered one of the most important mosques in Singapore.

The original mosque dates back to the ruler of Johor , Sultan Hussain Shah (1824). In the early 1900s, Singapore became a center for Islamic trade, culture, and the arts. The old Sultan Mosque became too small for the prosperous community, so the Mosque Foundation planned a new building. The architect Denis Santry built the new mosque in the Indo-Saracen style with minarets and balustrades . Construction began in 1924 and was completed four years later.

On March 14, 1975, the Sultan Mosque was declared a National Monument of Singapore . Today the mosque is maintained by the Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS).
