Massimo Livi Bacci

Massimo Livi Bacci (born November 9, 1936 in Florence ) is an Italian demographer and politician of the Partito Democratico . He is Professor Emeritus at the University of Florence and was Italian Senator from 2006 to 2013 .

Life

In 1966 Livi Bacci became Professor of Demography at the University of Florence , Institute "Cesare Alfieri". From 1973 to 1993 he was President of the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population . In 2004 he was elected a member of the American Philosophical Society . He retired in 2009.

For the center-left L'Ulivo list , Livi Bacci was elected to represent Tuscany in the Italian Senate . He joined the Partito Democratico (PD) in 2007 . The following year he was re-elected as a senator. In the legislative period up to 2013 he was a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Emigration, the Extraordinary Committee on Human Rights and the joint committee of both chambers of parliament for Schengen, Europol and Immigration. He was also the Italian delegate to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly from 2008 to 2009 .
