The company Masterbulk based in Singapore in 1995 as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Norwegian shipping company Westfal-Larsen founded to its fleet of open multi-purpose bulk carriers to bereedern . Until 1995 these ships were marketed by Star Shipping , which until then belonged 50% to Westfalen-Larsen and Grieg Shipping. After a partial separation in 1995, Star Shipping is a subsidiary of the Norwegian shipping company Grieg Shipping and Masterbulk.

Masterbulk today owns a fleet of 23 open multipurpose bulk freighters, which are mainly engaged in the transport of cargo types forest products, cellulose, paper, bulk cargo, containers and project cargoes.
