Grieg Star , formerly Star Shipping , is a Norwegian shipping company .

details

The company, based in Bergen , was founded in 1961 by Per Waaler with financial support from the two Norwegian shipowners Halvdan Grieg and Rolf Westfal-Larsen. Up until 1995, Westfalen-Larsen and Grieg Shipping owned 50% each of Star Shipping, with Star Shipping dealing on the one hand with the marketing of Star-Shipping, Grieg and Westfal-Larsen ships and on the other with the bulk carriers of the Londoners Shipping company Rethýmnis & Kulukundis took care of it. After a partial separation, the shipping company has been a subsidiary of the Norwegian shipping company Grieg Shipping and the Singaporean shipping company Masterbulk , which in turn belongs to the Norwegian shipping group Westfal-Larsen . The chemical tankers of the Westfalen-Larsen Group, which were formerly also supported, were then marketed by its subsidiaries Westchart and Westgas in Bergen.

The fleet consists of 60 to 70 ships, 45 of them own ships (2012), and is one of the largest Norwegian shipping companies. The focus is on the operation of open multipurpose bulk carriers , conbulkers and a range of Handysize and Handymax bulk carriers . In addition, the company operates several terminals that specialize in handling the types of cargo mainly transported by Star Shipping, forest products, cellulose, paper, bulk cargo, containers and project cargoes.
