A mast separator is a pylon , which on its traverse a over a long rod from the ground operated disconnector carries. A mast separator is a special form of the guy mast . It is used to isolate line branches from medium-voltage lines and in the area of railway power networks . (up to about 50 kV).

The disconnect switch, in accordance with the Occupational Safety Regulations as a load break switch must be carried out is usually mounted centrally on the traverse. But there are also special designs where the switch is mounted directly on the mast, similar to a mast station, or on one side of the lower cross member of a double concrete mast cable.

For voltages above 50 kV, an isolating switch for mounting on an overhead line mast is too large, so that no mast isolators are used for lines with voltages above 50 kV.
