Player career

Matías Lequi began his football career in Argentina with his youth club Rosario Central , where he spent his first two professional years. After he consistently performed well, he moved to the top Argentinian team River Plate Buenos Aires in 2001 . Here, too, he was able to assert himself and develop well. As usual in modern football, the top European clubs quickly became aware of Matías Lequi and he moved to Atlético Madrid . In his first season, however, he was not happy there, which is why he went to Serie A at Lazio . After an outstanding season in central defense of the Laziali, he returned to Spain, where he prevented goals for Celta de Vigo for three years (2005 to 2008). Due to financial problems at Celta, his contract was terminated in July 2008.

After a year without a club, he joined Iraklis Thessaloniki in the Greek Super League in the summer of 2009 . There he held a regular position in the defense, but was out for a few weeks in between. In early 2011 he left the club again and joined the Spanish second division UD Las Palmas .

In mid-2011 Lequi returned to Argentina to his home club Rosario Central, who played in the Primera B Nacional . In mid-2012, the first-class All Boys signed him . There he was hardly used in the 2012/13 season. He was subsequently without a club for a few months before joining the Paraguayan club Sportivo Luqueño in early 2014 . Club Atlético Aldosivi signed him in mid-2014 , before moving to CA Sarmiento in 2015 . He ended his career there at the end of 2016.
