Matanier Zchrakara

Matanier Zchrakara ( Georgian მატნის ცხრაკარა ; mɑtʼnɪs t͡sχrɑkʼɑrɑ ) is a medieval Georgian Orthodox monastery in the Kakheti region , Akhmetis Munizipaliteti , about 3.5 kilometers west of the village of Matani .

The monastery complex consists of several churches and other monastic buildings. There is also a low enclosure wall around the monastery. The main building of the monastery is a three-aisled basilica that was built from hewn stone in the 5th to 6th centuries. The basilica is a rectangular building (10X8.7 m). Two smaller single-nave basilicas were built in the 8th and 9th centuries. These basilicas are added to the north and west walls of the main church.

In the 15th century a bell tower was built in the monastery. During this time, the walls of the main church were also decorated with frescoes. Some of the frescoes have been preserved to this day. To the west of the main basilica is a small church from the late Middle Ages .
