Matautu (Apia)

Matautu ( Samoan : Matāutu) is a district of the island's capital Apia on the island of Upolu in the island state of Samoa .

geography

The settlement is located on a headland that stretches from the north coast to the north in the South Pacific . The settlement is divided into two parts: Matautu-tai on the coast and Matautu-uta inland. Apia Harbor , the country's main port, is located at Matautu. Accordingly, the plots are very valuable. One of the Matautu Points (Pilot Point) is located northwest of the settlement at the end of the headland .

society

Matautu-tai is subordinate to the Matai To'omalatai .

mythology

Legends say that travelers must make offerings to the To'omalatai before being allowed to travel safely by Moaula , the village god. Moaula is one of the most important spirits of Samoa.
