Matej Gašpar (born July 11, 1987 in Zagreb , formerly Yugoslavia , now Croatia ) symbolically became the five billionth person on earth.
The Secretary General of the UN, Javier Pérez de Cuéllar , visited a Zagreb hospital on July 11, 1987. On that day, statisticians calculated that the earth's population should reach five billion people. The general secretary randomly selected a baby born that day in the maternity ward of the women's clinic.
On October 12, 1999, two minutes after midnight, Adnan Mević was received symbolically as the six billionth person in Sarajevo , Bosnia and Herzegovina .
Danica May Camacho of the Philippines was symbolically elected on October 30, 2011 as one of several, seven billionth people.
