Reșița material ropeway
The Reșița material ropeway is a 500 meter long horizontal Lorenseilbahn in the center of the Romanian city of Reșița , which was used to transport lime and coal. With its six high pillars, it is a landmark of the place. The plant connects the local steelworks of the company SC TMK Reșita SA - which emerged from the former Combinat Siderurgic Reșița / CSR - with the associated coal mine on the opposite side of the slope. The river Bârzava , the railway line, a park and several streets are crossed.
The cable car was built in 1963/64 and has been out of service since 1992 due to the economic upheaval following the Romanian revolution of 1989 . In 2007, the recommissioning for the purpose of tourist re- use was discussed, which ultimately did not materialize.
