The Bârzava rises in the Semenic Mountains and crosses the Anina Mountains in the north. Its main tributaries are the Valiug , Crainic , Râul Alb , Secu , Valea Mare and Doman rivers . The Văliug , Gozna and Secu reservoirs can be found on its upper course .

Hydrotechnology on the Bârzava

The first preparations for the construction of a wood float system on the Bârzava were made as early as 1783. The work began with the construction of dams , rakes and reservoirs before the actual wood flooding began in 1785. To dig the logs out of the water, three rakes were built in Reșița , Câlnic and Bocșa . In order to regulate the water level of the Bârzava for the wood washing, the dam "Klauss" was built at Văliug in 1864 . The dam, which was made of carved fir trunks and filled with stone, had a maximum height of 11.5 meters and was 76 meters long. In 1894 the “Klauss” dam was repaired and enlarged. With a height of 14 meters, the reservoir now had an area of 5 hectares and a volume of 250,000 cubic meters. The dam was now built from rammed earth combined with stone-filled boxes. It worked in this form until 1917.

The Văliug reservoir was built in 1909. It has an area of 12.6 hectares and a capacity of 1,130,000 cubic meters of water. The Văliug reservoir is 25 meters deep and was built for water and electricity supply . It is an excellent swimming lake .

The Secu reservoir is located downstream of the Văliug reservoir and has an extension of 105.67 hectares. It was built to supply water but also to protect against flooding.

The Gozna reservoir was built up the valley of the Văliug reservoir and has an area of 66.2 hectares. He is the fishing of trout ideal.
