The MUEDis a non-profit association whose around 700 members are math teachers from German-speaking countries. The abbreviation stands for "Mathematics Lessons Unit File". MUED members exchange teaching materials and develop them further with colleagues. MUED publishes sample exercises and brochures on a wide range of topics for mathematics lessons. At conferences the members of the association discuss new didactic approaches and present experiences and materials from their own lessons. The aim of the MUED is a sustainable improvement in mathematics lessons, which should be oriented towards relevant contexts. According to the ideas of the MUED, mathematics lessons are intended to offer the students orientation for current and future action.

History and Development

The MUED was founded in 1977 as a self-governing organization of mathematics teachers from all types of schools in order to change the then very practical mathematics teaching. From the very beginning it was a network of like-minded people who wanted to develop application-oriented teaching units together, try them out in class and share their experiences. The resulting material database now includes more than 1100 digital teaching materials that are available to all members. The association MUED e. V. has founded its own publishing house MUED Bücherbunt as a special-purpose company. In the online shop of the publisher, MUED sells various teaching materials from the "Mathematics to be grasped" category and many brochures on mathematical topics for secondary levels I and II.

Heinz Böer , the founder and "Spiritus Rector" of MUED, has received various awards for his work. Among other things, he received the MINT Ambassador Prize 2012, the German Mathematicians Association made him "Mathemaker of the Month April 2012", in 2014 he received the Archimedes Prize of the German Association for the Promotion of Mathematics and Science Education and in the same year the Federal Cross of Merit .

activities

As a member of the association, you can access the teaching materials, take part in discussions at conferences and on internet forums and receive the MUED circular and monthly newsletter four times a year. But MUED also offers non-members the opportunity to take part in the conferences, to purchase teaching material and series of publications in the shop and, for example, to get an insight into MUED's materials via the "Worksheet of the Month".
