The German Association for the Promotion of Mathematics and Science Education ( MNU for short ) represents the specialist interests of around 6,000 teachers (as of 2007) in all types of schools in the fields of mathematics , biology , chemistry , physics , astronomy, computer science and technology .

History and description

The MNU was founded in 1891 and since then has endeavored to influence the development of mathematics and science teaching in Germany. The regional associations hold meetings annually or every two years. The annual congress of the association that takes place during Holy Week and conferences for specialist managers are also significant as a further training event .

The members, predominantly from the high school sector, receive the magazine MNU - Der Mathematische und Naturwissenschaftliche Studium, which has been published since 1948/9 and which can be seen as the successor to the former association organ teaching sheets for mathematics and natural sciences (1895-1943). From 2009 to 2011 the magazine MNU Primar was also published , which was aimed at teachers in primary schools.

In 1934 the association had almost 4,000 members, in 1997 7,000 were registered and in 2011 around 5,150.
