Mathias Knauer

Mathias Knauer (* 1942 in Biel ) is a Swiss filmmaker .

Life

Mathias Knauer studied musicology, philosophy and journalism at the University of Zurich . Since 1963 he has been working as a music critic, political journalist and publicist. Until 1975 he was an assistant at the musicological seminar at the University of Zurich.

Knauer is a co-founder of the Zurich Film Cooperative (1972) and the Zurich Film Collective (1976). He is the author of five films, all of which he directed with cameraman Rob Gnant .

From 1994 to 1996 Knauer was Vice President of the Association of Swiss Film Designers VSFG, from 1997 to 2001 board member of the Swiss cultural foundation Pro Helvetia and in 2005 co-founder and since then member of the board of the Swiss coalition for cultural diversity.
