Mathieu Gilles Thomas (born March 22, 1984 ) is a French badminton player . His motor skills are limited due to cancer and he starts in Parabadminton in the SL3 starting class in singles and doubles.

Athletic career

Mathieu Thomas played basketball until he was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 17 . As a result of the disease, his motor skills are restricted. In 2015 he started cycling and eventually parabadminton . At the 2016 European Badminton Championships for the disabled in Beek , the Netherlands , he won gold in doubles with Lucas Mazur against final opponents Marcel Adam and Simón Cruz Mondejar . In the singles he was eliminated in the semifinals against the Englishman Daniel Bethell and won bronze. At the Badminton World Cup for the disabled in Ulsan in 2017 , he and his Thai partner Siripong Teamarrom achieved bronze. In Rodez he won double silver and single bronze at the home European championships 2018.
