Mathilde von Hoppé-von Rigéno , wrongly called Mathilde von Hoppe-Regèno by Eisenberg ( December 13, 1843 in Berlin - July 2, 1887 there ) was a German opera singer (soprano).

Life

Mathilde von Hoppé-von Rigéno, daughter of the actor A. von Rigéno, was one of the most outstanding and famous German soubrettes of the 19th century and celebrated her greatest triumphs especially at the time when the operetta at the Wilhelmstadt Theater was in bloom. For a long time she was a member of the esteemed ensemble on this stage. It peaked in popularity in the early 1870s.

From 1870 to 1871 she was at the Hamburg City Theater, 1871 to 1873 at the Nuremberg City Theater, 1873 to 1876 at the Danzig City Theater, 1876 to 1877 at the Poznan City Theater, from 1878 to 1879 at the Trier City Theater, and from 1879 to 1880 at the Tilsit Theater ( East Prussia) committed.

“Schöne Helena”, “Galathee”, “ Grand Duchess of Gerolstein ” etc. were praised achievements of this artist. The theater directors of the most outstanding German theaters fought over their property and offered the highest guest fees. The audience pampered her no less and cheered her on whatever stage she appeared on.

When she felt that her star was beginning to pale, she made the transition to the older subject and the once highly celebrated opera soubrette soon turned into a strange old woman.

She did not even come close to achieving her earlier successes in this new subject, neither at the Theater of Lodz (1882 to 1883) nor at the Theater of Zurich (1883 to 1886). On the contrary, she sank from level to level and later even lived in the poorest of circumstances. The once famous artist died, forgotten by all over the world, in July 1887 in a hospital in Berlin.

She was married to the actor Ludwig Hoppé .
