Mato Grosso Plateau
The Mato Grosso Plateau ( Portuguese Planalto do Mato Grosso ) is a high plateau in the west of Brazil . It is located in the state of the same name, Mato Grosso .
To the west of the Mato Grosso plateau is the Sierra dos Parecis mountain range , and to the southwest is the alluvial plain of the Pantanal . Mato Grosso means dense forest, the name is explained by the fact that the plateau is covered by the Campos cerrados . The Campos cerrados include wide grasslands and densely forested areas.
The livestock is the most important industry . In addition to beans , rice and sugar cane and other agricultural products grown. Cuiabá is considered the urban center . The high plateau is the settlement area of the indigenous Xavante .
