Eduardo Tucci da Silva , or Dudu Tucci for short (born May 5, 1955 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian musician who has lived in Berlin since the mid-1980s . In addition to his extensive CD production, he has gained recognition through his teaching activities, with which he has significantly shaped the German and European samba scene.

Dudu Tucci grew up in a family of musicians and even as a teenager he drummed in umbanda ceremonies. He studied classical percussion , flute and musicology at the Brooklin Paulista Conservatory in São Paulo. Extensive travels through South America and the study of Afro-Brazilian rhythms broadened his musical horizons.

In 1978 Dudu Tucci was invited to play as a percussionist in the symphony orchestra in his hometown. At the same time he met the Brazilian dancer Ismael Ivo , with whom he built the Experimental Black Dance Group . After working with the composer Arrigo Barnabé , Tucci accepted an invitation to the JazzFest in Berlin in 1982 , where he has lived since then. In 1987 he was a guest musician on the world tour of Reinhard Flatischler's MegaDrums project.

In 1990 Dudu Tucci released his first CD, which has since been followed by nine more. Among them are two who are entirely dedicated to the music of the Candomblé and the Umbanda .

As a composer, he combines modern and traditional styles of Brazilian music , but also takes up currents outside of Brazil . Dudu Tucci plays all the percussion instruments on his CDs himself, sings and plays the flute. Especially on the pandeiro and the conga he is one of the most outstanding musicians. He is often accompanied by guest singers, bassists, guitarists and saxophonists. He attaches great importance to the quality of his lyrics. Tucci is also active as a producer, so he has released a CD by Cuban cajónes musicians (Iré Otonoguá: Cajónes para los Orichas ).

Together with the dancer and choreographer Murah Soares , Dudu Tucci is artistic director of Bloco Afoxé Loni , one of the largest groups at the Berlin Carnival of Cultures . Another band project are the Brasil Power Drums . In addition, Dudu Tucci appears with an extensive solo program and works with various dancers.

As a teacher, he has made a name for himself above all with the Raízes do Brasil project , in which he has taught the majority of samba teachers in Germany and Europe. With Tiago de Oliveira Pinto he brought out the textbook Samba and Sambistas in Brazil in 1992 .
