Afoxé Loni [afu∫e: loni] is a Brazilian - German music and dance group from Berlin . The artistic directors are Dudu Tucci (percussion) and Murah Soares (choreography).

Afoxé Loni was founded in 1996 on the occasion of the Berlin Carnival of Cultures and has led the street parade at the head of the parade ever since. The group follows the tradition of Brazilian Afoxé blocos, traditional Brazilian rhythms and compositions by Dudu Tucci are played. The white and golden yellow costumes of the blocos are characteristic.

During the Carnival of Cultures, the Berlin group grows to up to a hundred drummers, as many dancers and a few singers thanks to numerous guests from all over Germany, Italy, England and other countries. Afoxé Loni has represented the Carnival of Cultures several times, for example at the awarding of a critics' prize in the Berlin Schauspielhaus , at the Expo 2000 in Hanover or at the reopening of the Berlin Olympic Stadium . Afoxé Loni does not take part in the group competition of the carnival.

A smaller formation takes on stage performances throughout the year. As one of the few groups in Europe, Afoxé Loni also brings the music and dances of Candomblé to the stage. The band has been invited to festivals in Aguascalientes (Mexico), Førde (Norway), London, Milan, Dublin, Manchester and Drogheda (Ireland) , among others .

In 2002 the CD Afoxé Loni - Drums of Peace was released . The music was completely recorded by Dudu Tucci, the vocals are from Murah Soares, Dudu Tucci and the group's choir singers.

Since there are many Brazilians among the members, Afoxé Loni also plays an important social role for the Brazilian community in Berlin. The group is organized by Krista Zeissig, who Afoxé Loni co-founded.

In May 2011, the sponsoring association announced that Afoxé Loni would take part in the Carnival of Cultures for the last time in 15 years for financial reasons. While the income and funding do not reach the groups, the city's requirements for participation are so high that up to 7,000 euros have to be spent on the technology of the car, safety and garbage disposal. At the same time, the willingness of musicians and dancers to participate out of idealism has dwindled, and instead the event is perceived as a free party. The performance group should continue to exist.
