The Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO); ( Arabic شركة نفط البحرين Sharikat Naft al-Bahrayn , DMG Šarikat Nafṭ al-Baḥrayn ) is a petroleum company owned by the government of Bahrain . It was founded in 1929 by the Standard Oil of California .

The first oil was found in 1932 and the first gas was found in 1948 . In 1934 the first oil was shipped and in 1936 the refinery in Sitra was opened.

BAPCO has a refinery ( ) with a capacity of 267,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) and its own loading terminal. World icon

Most of the oil and the products made from it are exported (49% to the GCC countries , 20% to Japan and Southeast Asia , 16% to Africa, 12% to Europe ).
