Matrox Graphics
Matrox Graphics is the division of Matrox Electronic Systems Ltd. (Matrox), which deals with the development and sale of graphics solutions for professional use. The range includes both hardware products and software solutions.
history
Matrox Graphics represents the division in which Matrox was a leading manufacturer of graphics cards and a major competitor to Number Nine during the 1990s . Due to the high competitive pressure, the company withdrew from the less profitable 3D games market at the end of the 1990s, as it shied away from the extremely high development and production costs, and concentrated on corporate customers. Since Intel now dominated the market for office graphics cards with the help of IGPs , they looked for various niche markets and specialized in professional graphics cards with two or more monitor connections. Today, products from Matrox Graphics are mainly used where maximum image quality with high resolution and multiple monitors is important, including in the medical field, by graphic artists (e.g. professional photo retouching), at stock exchange and cash register terminals, control systems and surveillance systems in industry as well as in the ProAudio and video sector in which multi-monitor solutions with a high degree of software integration are required, such as B. also in TV and video broadcasting or a large format video wall .
Products
After the reorientation, the focus at Matrox Graphics is particularly on multi-display solutions such as DualHead2Go and TripleHead2Go . The older graphics cards are still being offered and are being further developed to a limited extent, not least because of the 2D quality that is still decisive today and is seldom exceeded. Matrox graphics cards, especially the G550 series, are still in great demand from designers and programmers. In the summer of 2008, Matrox brought the M series onto the market, which as DirectX 9 cards support the Windows Vista Aero user interface in professional multi-monitor environments.

driver
Matrox Graphics offers drivers for all major operating systems , especially Microsoft Windows . Up to the G550, Matrox was very popular in the Linux area because it released a full open source driver. This is also implemented in X.Org . With the appearance of the Parhelia cards in the early 2000s, however, that changed and Matrox Graphics only offers a proprietary driver; At the moment there are only drivers up to X.org 1.15, newer installations are not supported.
