Matsubara Kiyomatsu

Matsubara Kiyomatsu ( Japanese 松原 喜 代 松 ; * 1907 ; † 1968 ) was a Japanese marine biologist , ichthyologist and herpetologist .

Kiyomatsu Matsubara was the first professor of the Department of Fisheries at Kyoto University and is considered the founder of research on fish systematics in Japan. He focused in his research mainly on the scorpion fish (Scorpaeniformes) and published a large number of books and scientific articles. He described several new fish species, including the crocodile shark ( Pseudocarcharias kamoharai ). The rays Bathyraja matsubarai (Ishiyama, 1952) and Dasyatis matsubarai Miyosi, 1939 were named after him .
