Matsukura Katsuie ( Japanese 松 倉 勝 家 ; * 1597 ; † August 28, 1638 ) was the daimyo of Shimabara and the son of Matsukura Shigemasa , who as such belonged to the Matsukura family . His cruelty contributed to the outbreak of the Shimabara uprising . He was known for pulling disobedient peasants on the straw raincoats used in Japan and then setting them on fire.

Although the uprising was eventually successfully suppressed, because of his mismanagement in this situation, he was “advised” to commit seppuku ( hara-kiri ).

His banner had black ribbons on a red background.
