The Sendai Bay ( Japanese 仙台湾 Sendai-wan ) is a bay of the Pacific Ocean off the northern Japanese ( Tōhoku ) coast.
geography
It stretches along the southern part of Miyagi Prefecture for about 130 km from the Oshika Peninsula to Cape Unoosaki. The northern part from the Oshika Peninsula to Miyato-jima Island is also called Ishinomaki Bay ( 石 巻 湾 Ishinomaki-wan ). Miyato-jima and the Shichigahama peninsula in turn separate Matsushima Bay ( 松 松 湾 Matsushima-wan ), which houses the Matsushima group of islands.
With the exception of Matsushima Bay, the bay is characterized by its sandy beaches.
Across the bay, the Ishinomaki- (are 石巻平野 Ishinomaki-heiya ) and Sendai plains ( 仙台平野 Sendai heiya ) by the rivers of 1st order Kyū-Kitakami-gawa , Naruse-gawa , Natori-gawa and Abukuma-gawa crisscrossed that drain into the bay.
