Matthew W. "Matt" McCoy (born March 29, 1966 in Des Moines , Iowa ) is an American politician ( Democratic Party ).

McCoy studied after his school days at Briar Cliff College , where he earned a Bachelor of Arts . He was a member of the Iowa House of Representatives from January 11, 1993 to January 13, 1997 . He was followed by the politician Frank Chiodo . Since January 1997 McCoy has served as the successor to Tony Bisignano in the Senate of Iowa , where he represents the 31st district of the state . He lives openly gay in Des Moines.
