Matthew Church

The Matthäuskirche in Karlsruhe was built in 1926/1927 as an emergency church for community and youth work. It is Hermann Alker's first, largest and most important new church building. With the most economical financial means, it could only come about through the collaboration between architects, industrial construction companies, artists and lighting technicians.

Structure

The building is designed as a lightweight wood construction and combines construction methods from industrial construction and the agricultural sector. The timber frame system and timber frame walls form the supporting structure.

Interior renovation 2008

In 2008 the interior was renovated and redesigned by the architect Hans Robert Hiegel . Color and lighting changed significantly as a result of the intervention.
