Hans Robert Hiegel

Hans Robert Hiegel (born January 6, 1954 in Kaiserslautern ) is a German architect and urban planner .

Life

After studying in Kaiserslautern, Hiegel settled in London, where he studied with David Greene and received the AA diploma from the Architectural Association in 1977 . A year later he settled in Karlsruhe and founded the HRHiegel architects and urban planners office .

In 1981 the German Architecture Museum bought designs from Hiegel, and a high-rise model was also acquired, the precursor to the Campanile. The Center Pompidou had the Campanile design by Hiegel made from Lego bricks and showed it as part of the exhibition “L'architecture est un jeu magnifique”.

In 1984 the Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern showed the exhibition Architecture in transition: new architecture; 7 young architects from America, Germany, England and Italy a . a. with projects from Hiegel.

In addition to his practical work, he taught as a guest lecturer in London, New York, Kassel, at the HfG Karlsruhe and at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem.

From 1989 to 1994 Hans Robert Hiegel was chairman of the Association of German Builders in Karlsruhe.

At the 300th anniversary of Karlsruhe in 2015, Hans Robert Hiegel was also interviewed as part of the 300 Years - 300 Heads campaign . Until 2017, Hiegel was an elder of the Protestant Church.

Architectural work

Hiegel's early work can in part be assigned to the late modern period, for example the Agne house from 1983. Subsequently, Hiegel's work showed postmodern features. A publication certified Hiegel in addition to Jourdan & Müller, "Joke and loose gestures"

Hiegel is a member of the Masonic Lodge "Peace and Freedom" in Karlsruhe; he repeatedly referred to the architectural roots of Freemasonry . His attitude is particularly evident in a publication by Pegasus Verlag in which he describes architecture as a “lost intellectual property”. In addition, he publishes his own writings in the publisher “mens architecturae”, which he co-founded.

In an interview with the Stuttgart 21 proponents, Hiegel referred to the urban development opportunities that the project offers.
