Karlsruhe motorway maintenance authority

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The motorway maintenance facility in Karlsruhe - Durlach (Alte Karlsruher Straße 40) was established in 1934 as a facility for maintaining and building the motorways in Baden . It is Paul Schmitthenner's only larger building that was built during the Nazi regime. Schmitthenner got involved in this building because he expected follow-up orders from the National Socialists, which however did not materialize.

aesthetics

The classical, symmetrical sandstone building has a centrally placed entrance. Slight asymmetries are planned for the proportions of the building. The chimney is to the left and the windows to the right.

In 2010, the exterior and interior were renovated and redesigned by the architect Hans Robert Hiegel . The stone facade was repaired and renewed, the slate roof was newly covered and insulated, and the color scheme on the central projectile , eaves and windows was renewed.
