The Matthew Baird Mansion is a historic property in North Philadelphia .

The four-story property has 19 rooms and was built from 1863 to 1864. It includes a rear building and a horse stable at the other end of the 160-  foot- wide property, whose sandstone front facade is 40 feet wide. It was one of the first prestigious townhouses that Philadelphia's wealthy industrialists built near their corporate headquarters, some of them also on Broad Street. Matthew Baird Mansion reveals stylistic elements from different directions, such as Romanesque , Second Empire and Italianate . One of the most striking features are the frieze bands that end in round arches and form the window sill.

Client Matthew Baird was an inventor of components for steam locomotives at Baldwin Locomotive Works . After the death of Matthias William Baldwin in 1866, he became the sole owner of what was then the world's largest company of this type, which from then on operated under his name as Baldwin Locomotive Works, M. Baird & Co. After his death in 1877, the family lived in the Matthew Baird Mansion for ten years.

On December 29, 1983, the Matthew Baird Mansion was added to the National Register of Historic Places .
