history

First, in 1807, a Catholic cemetery was created as the successor to the burial grounds that had arisen around the St. Urbanus Church on today's Voßwinkeler Straße. This cemetery turned out to be too small, so that this Catholic cemetery, closer to the church, could already be inaugurated in 1838. In the 1950s and 1960s efforts were made to close the cemetery and set up a communal cemetery, which the then independent municipality of Vosswinkel created in 1972 due to the lack of expansion options. The Catholic cemetery was then closed in 1973. The last burial took place in 2006 due to old occupancy rights.
