Matthew C. Harrison

Matthew Carl Harrison (born March 14, 1962 ) is President of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod , the second largest US Lutheran church with approximately 2.4 million members.

Life

Harrison received his college degree from Morningside College, Sioux City in 1984. He then completed his studies in theology at Concordia Seminary, Fort Wayne, where he also received his doctorate in theology. After the vicariate he was ordained to the office of the Church in 1991 . His pastorships have taken him to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Westgate, Iowa and Zion Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Until his election as the leading clergyman of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, he had been Deaconry Director (Executive Director, LCMS World Relief / Human Care) of this church since 2001. On July 13th, 2010 he was elected President at the 64th Synodal Assembly of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and on September 11th, 2010 he was appointed to his office.
