Matthew Steen
Matthew Landy Steen (born August 22, 1949 in San Francisco ) is an American political writer and activist.
He was a member of the Weather Underground Organization , the Students for a Democratic Society and the Youth International Party . Today he is an activist in the New Left movement. He was the editor of the Berkeley Tribe in the 1960s. In 1972 he was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for federal conspiracy and bank robbery. He was jailed as the first member of the Weather Underground. Later the Unknown Activists discovered that he was a target of COINTELPRO , a federal gang for the elimination of the New Left, anti-war and black militant organizations.
