Students for a Democratic Society

Students for a Democratic Society (SDS, Students for a Democratic Society ) called himself a student organization in the United States . It was founded in Ann Arbor in 1960 . You were part of the New Left , which formed a cornerstone of the student movement in the 1960s . They supported the civil rights movement advocating legal equality . With the Vietnam War they became the main focal point for protesting students .

With anti-war activity, the student movement became increasingly radical , and after militant groups split off, the SDS disintegrated in 1969.

The positions of the SDS are set out in the Port Huron Declaration , based on a draft by Tom Hayden , which was adopted in Port Huron on June 11, 1962 . In 1974 it was dissolved.
